Tvar závisí na tom, zda mluvíme o jedné věci / nepočitatelném podstatném jménu, nebo o více než jedné věci.

There is se používá s podstatným jménem v jednotném čísle a there are se používá s podstatným jménem v množném čísle.

U nepočitatelných podstatných jmen obvykle používáme there is.

Je dost času.

There is some information in the email.
V e-mailu jsou nějaké informace.
Za strukturou často přidáváme místo nebo jiný detail: na stole, v místnosti, ve škole.

Pod židlí je kočka.

V kladných větách často používáme some a v otázkách a záporných větách často používáme any.

V mluvené angličtině se there is často zkracuje na there’s. U there are se obvykle dává přednost plnému tvaru.

Pokud po dané struktuře následuje seznam, sloveso se často shoduje s prvním podstatným jménem v seznamu.
