There is kasutatakse koos ainsusliku nimisõnaga ja there are kasutatakse koos mitmusliku nimisõnaga.

Lugematute nimisõnadega kasutame tavaliselt there is.
There is enough time.
On piisavalt aega.

Meilis on veidi teavet.

Suulises inglise keeles lühendatakse there is sageli kujule there’s. Väljendi there are puhul eelistatakse tavaliselt täisvormi.

Eituse moodustamiseks kasutatakse sõna not: there is not / there isn’t ja there are not / there aren’t.
