There is / There are משמשים כדי לומר שמשהו קיים, נוכח או נמצא במקום כלשהו. מבנה זה עוזר להציג אדם, דבר או חפץ בשיחה.

הצורה תלויה בשאלה אם אנחנו מדברים על דבר אחד / שם עצם בלתי ספיר או על יותר מדבר אחד.

There is משמש עם שם עצם ביחיד, ו־there are משמש עם שם עצם ברבים.
