There was / There were استفاده می‌کنیم

There was / There were برای بیان این به کار می‌رود که چیزی در گذشته وجود داشت، حاضر بود، یا در جایی قرار داشت.

There was a book on the table yesterday.
دیروز یک کتاب روی میز بود.
There were two students in the classroom.
دو دانش‌آموز در کلاس بودند.

There was / There were فرم

شکل آن بستگی به این دارد که آیا دربارهٔ یک چیز / یک اسم غیرقابل‌شمارش صحبت می‌کنیم یا دربارهٔ بیش از یک چیز در گذشته.

There was + singular noun / uncountable noun
There were + plural noun

There was a problem with the printer this morning.
امروز صبح مشکلی با چاپگر وجود داشت.
There was some milk in the fridge.
کمی شیر در یخچال بود.
There were three chairs in the room.
سه صندلی در اتاق بود.

There was / There were قانون

  • There was با اسم مفرد به‌کار می‌رود، و there were با اسم جمع به‌کار می‌رود.
    ✅ There was a lamp near the bed.
    ✅ There were two lamps near the bed.
  • با اسم‌های غیرقابل‌شمارش، معمولاً از there was استفاده می‌کنیم.
    There was enough food for everyone.
    برای همه به اندازهٔ کافی غذا بود.
    There was some information in the report.
    در گزارش مقداری اطلاعات وجود داشت.
  • بعد از ساختار، اغلب یک مکان یا یک جزئیات زمانی اضافه می‌کنیم: در اتاق، روی میز، دیشب.
    There was a cat under the chair.
    یک گربه زیر صندلی بود.
    There were many people at the bus stop yesterday.
    دیروز افراد زیادی در ایستگاه اتوبوس بودند.
  • در جمله‌های مثبت، ما اغلب از some استفاده می‌کنیم، و در سؤال‌ها و جمله‌های منفی اغلب از any استفاده می‌کنیم.
    ✅ There were some cookies in the box.
    ✅ Were there any cookies in the box?
    ✅ There weren’t any cookies in the box.
  • در انگلیسی گفتاری، there was اغلب به شکل معمول خود به کار می‌رود و صورت منفی آن معمولاً به there wasn’t کوتاه می‌شود. دربارهٔ there were، شکل کامل یا there weren’t رایج است.
    ✅ There wasn’t any message for you.
    ✅ There were several mistakes in the text.
  • اگر فهرستی بعد از ساختار بیاید، فعل اغلب با اولین اسم در فهرست مطابقت می‌کند.
    ✅ There was a sofa and two chairs in the living room.
    ✅ There were two chairs and a sofa in the living room.

There was / There were نفی

منفی‌سازی با not ساخته می‌شود: there was not / there wasn’t و there were not / there weren’t.

There wasn’t any sugar in the cupboard.
هیچ شکری در کابینت نبود.
There weren’t any free tables.
هیچ میز خالی‌ای نبود.
There wasn’t much traffic that morning.

در سؤال‌ها، was یا were قبل از there می‌آید.
