May / Might koristimo

May / might se koristi da se govori o mogućnosti u sadašnjosti ili budućnosti i da se pokaže da nismo sigurni, ali mislimo da je nešto moguće.

It may rain later.
Možda će kasnije padati kiša.
She might come with us.
Можда ће поћи с нама.
We might not finish today.
Можда нећемо завршити данас.

May / Might Форма

May i might su modalni glagoli. Posle njih uvek koristimo osnovni oblik glagola (V1) bez to. Oblici may i might ostaju isti za sva lica.

I may call him tonight.
Možda ću ga pozvati večeras.
He might be busy now.
Možda je sada zauzet.
They may not arrive on time.
Можда неће стићи на време.

May / Might Правило

  • May и might се користе да говоре о могућности у садашњости или будућности: нешто је могуће, али нисмо сигурни.
    It may snow tonight.
    Moguće je da će večeras padati sneg.
    Tom might miss the train.
    Tom bi mogao da propusti voz.
  • Ljudi često kažu da may zvuči kao nešto što je malo verovatnije, dok might zvuči malo manje sigurno ili više neodređeno. Međutim, u stvarnoj upotrebi, ova razlika često nije stroga.
    ✅ She may come later. (possible)
    ✅ She might come later. (also possible, often a bit less certain)
  • После may и might користимо само основни облик глагола без to.
    ❌ He may to come later.
    ✅ He may come later.
  • Oblici may i might su isti sa svim subjektima: I may, she may, they might. Ne dodajemo -s.
    ✅ She might need help.
    ❌ She mights need help.
  • Negacija se gradi sa may not i might not. Ne koristimo oblike kao što su don’t may ili doesn’t might.
    ✅ We might not stay long.
    ❌ We don’t might stay long.
  • U ovoj temi, may / might govore o mogućnosti. May se takođe može koristiti za dozvolu (May I...?), ali to je drugo značenje.
    ✅ It may rain tonight. (possibility)
    ✅ May I come in? (permission)
  • Pitanja sa may i might za izražavanje mogućnosti ređa su. Sa may, pitanja češće izražavaju dozvolu, dok je za mogućnost često prirodnije koristiti might ili konstrukciju poput Do you think ... might ...?

  • May / might se ne koriste zajedno sa drugim modalnim glagolom.
    ❌ She may can come.
    ✅ She may come.

May / Might Негација

Негација се гради са may not или might not. После њих и даље користимо V1 без to.

За питања о могућности, might је чешћи. Модални глагол долази испред субјекта. Такође често користимо природнију структуру Do you think ... might ...?
