Speculation and Deduction koristimo

Nagađanje i zaključivanje se koristi kada nagađamo i donosimo zaključke na osnovu onoga što znamo, vidimo ili čujemo. Pomoću modalnih glagola možemo reći da smo gotovo sigurni, da je nešto moguće, da je nešto nemoguće, ili da nešto očekujemo.

She looks exhausted. She must be working too hard.
Izgleda iscrpljeno. Mora da radi previše naporno.
He may have missed the train.
Можда је пропустио воз.
They can’t be at home. All the lights are off.
Не могу бити код куће. Сва светла су угашена.
The parcel should arrive tomorrow.

Speculation and Deduction Форма

U ovoj temi često koristimo različite modalne glagole u zavisnosti od stepena sigurnosti i od toga da li govorimo o sadašnjosti, procesu koji je u toku ili prošlosti. Za završenu radnju u prošlosti obično koristimo have + V3, a za proces koji se dešava otprilike sada koristimo be + Ving.

may / might / could + V1 / be + Ving

must / may / might / could / can’t / couldn’t + have + V3
should / ought to + V1
should / ought to + have + V3

  • Mora se koristi za snažan zaključak: gotovo smo sigurni da je nešto istinito. To nije stopostotna činjenica, ali je veoma siguran zaključak.
    She has been studying all day. She must be tired.
    Учила је цео дан. Мора да је уморна.
    Kate doesn’t have her car today. She must have rented one.
    Кејт данас нема свој ауто. Мора да је изнајмила неки.
  • May, might и could се користе када је нешто могуће, али нисмо сигурни. Обично су may и might веома блиски по значењу, а и could такође често изражава могућност.
    The noise may be coming from the neighbours.
    Buka možda dolazi od komšija.
    He might have left already.
    Možda je već otišao.
  • Can’t и couldn’t се користе када мислимо да је нешто немогуће или када показујемо снажну неверицу или изненађење.
    You can’t be serious!

  • Should и ought to у овој теми често изражавају очекивање: мислимо да је нешто вероватно тачно или да се очекивало да се догоди.
    The train should be here by now.

    Trebalo je da su mu rekli za promenu.
  • Za slabu negativnu mogućnost koristimo may not i might not. Oblik couldn’t obično izražava nemogućnost, a ne samo slabiju mogućnost.
    ✅ There might not be enough food for everyone.
    ❌ There couldn’t be enough food for everyone. (if you only mean “maybe not”)
  • Pored modalnih glagola, nagađanje se može izraziti i drugim rečima: be likely to, be unlikely to, be bound to, probably i definitely.
    She is likely to forget about the meeting.
    Она ће вероватно заборавити на састанак.
    That mistake was bound to happen sooner or later.
    Та грешка је пре или касније морала да се догоди.

Speculation and Deduction Негација

U ovoj temi, odrični oblici zavise od značenja. May not / might not = moguće je da nešto nije tačno. Can’t / couldn’t = to je nemoguće. Shouldn’t može da izrazi očekivanje da nešto verovatno nije u redu.

may not / might not + V1
can’t + V1 / be + Ving
can’t / couldn’t + have + V3
shouldn’t + V1 / have + V3

He may not know the address.
Можда не зна адресу.
They can’t be waiting outside in this weather.
Ne mogu da čekaju napolju po ovakvom vremenu.
She couldn’t have taken your bag by mistake.

Speculation and Deduction Питања

U pitanjima o nagađanju često koristimo could, might, should i konstrukcije poput Do you think ...? Direktna pitanja sa must su moguća, ali često zvuče emotivnije ili manje neutralno.

Could / Might + subject + V1 / be + Ving?
Wh-word + might / could + subject + have + V3?
Should + subject + V1?
Do you think + subject + might / could + V1?

Could she be sleeping?
