Demonstrative Pronouns usiamo

I pronomi dimostrativi sono le parole this, that, these e those. Ci aiutano a indicare una persona, una cosa, un gruppo di cose o un’idea: vicina o lontana, singolare o plurale.

Demonstrative Pronouns Forma

La forma dipende da due cose: singolare o plurale e vicino o lontano. Queste parole possono venire prima di un sostantivo oppure stare da sole, senza un sostantivo.

  • Usa this e these per cose che sono vicine a chi parla: fisicamente vicine, in un'immagine, nelle tue mani o nella situazione attuale.
    This phone is new.
    Questo telefono Γ¨ nuovo.
    These flowers are for you.
    Questi fiori sono per te.
    Look at this photo.
    Guarda questa foto.
  • Usa that e those per le cose che sono piΓΉ lontane da chi parla: fisicamente lontane, β€œlaggiù”, piΓΉ vicine a chi ascolta, o non piΓΉ nel momento presente.
    Do you like that picture?
    Ti piace quella foto?
    Who are those people?
    Chi sono quelle persone?
    That shop across the street is closed.
    Quel negozio dall'altra parte della strada Γ¨ chiuso.
  • Questo e quello si usano con i nomi singolari. Possono anche essere usati con i nomi non numerabili.

  • These e those si usano solo con i sostantivi plurali.

  • Quando this / that / these / those sono usati senza un sostantivo, sostituiscono una cosa, una persona o un’idea che Γ¨ chiara dal contesto.
    Come and look at this.
    Vieni a vedere questo.
    Can I have one of these?
    Posso averne uno di questi?
    I do not like those. They are too expensive.
    Quelli non mi piacciono. Sono troppo costosi.
  • Quello si riferisce spesso a qualcosa che Γ¨ appena accaduto o a ciΓ² che qualcuno ha appena detto.
    A: I am sorry I forgot to phone you.
    B: That's all right.
    That was a really nice meal. Thank you very much.

  • Al telefono, usiamo spesso Parla... per dire chi sta parlando e Sei...? per chiedere chi Γ¨ in linea.

  • Per presentare delle persone, usa This is... per una persona e These are... per piΓΉ persone.
    Brian, this is Chris.

    These are my parents.
    Questi sono i miei genitori.
  • Nelle espressioni di tempo, this significa spesso il periodo attuale o piΓΉ vicino: questa mattina, questa settimana, quest’anno. That puΓ² riferirsi al passato o a un periodo di tempo giΓ  menzionato.
    I am very busy this week.
    Sono molto impegnato questa settimana.
    We met in Paris in 2019. That year was unforgettable.
    Ci siamo incontrati a Parigi nel 2019. Quell'anno Γ¨ stato indimenticabile.

Gli errori comuni sono di solito collegati al numero: this / that non possono essere usati con sostantivi plurali, e these / those richiedono il verbo are.
